Let’s see the marriage requirements for Russian citizens in Italy!

Since we noticed an increase in requests of Russian citizens willing to get married in Italy, we are happy to share all the valuable information to obtain your Russian nulla osta to get married in Italy.

The “Nulla Osta al Matrimonio” certificate is issued by the Russian Consulate in Italy upon presentation of the following documents:

1) If the applicant has not been married:

– The document certifying the absence of state registration of the applicant’s marriage in the state archive (“EGR ZAGS”) – valid Russian foreign passport – valid internal Russian passport – birth certificate (original or copy authenticated by the notary).

2) If the applicant has been married but has not changed their surname:

– The document certifying the absence of state registration of the applicant’s marriage in the state archive (“EGR ZAGS”) – valid Russian foreign passport – valid internal Russian passport – birth certificate (original or copy certified by the notary) – divorce certificate (original or copy certified by the notary)

3) If the applicant was married and changed their surname:

– The document certifying the absence of state registration of the applicant’s marriage in the state archive (“EGR ZAGS”) – valid Russian foreign passport – valid internal Russian passport – birth certificate (original or copy authenticated by the notary) – marriage certificate confirming the change of surname issued by the Civil Status Office which registered the previous marriage (in original or copy certified by the notary) – divorce certificate (original or copy certified by the notary)

4) If the applicant is a widower:

– The document certifying the absence of state registration of the applicant’s marriage in the state archive (“EGR ZAGS”) – valid Russian foreign passport – valid internal Russian passport – birth certificate (original or copy certified by the notary) – marriage certificate confirming the change of surname issued by the Civil Status Office who registered the previous marriage (in original or copy certified by the notary) – death certificate of the spouse (in original or copy certified by the notary )

The document attesting to the absence of state registration of the applicant’s marriage in the state archive (“EGR ZAGS”) can only be obtained in Russia (including by proxy).

If the applicant has changed the surname, name, or surname, the certificate of the change of surname (name, surname) issued by the Civil Status Office must be presented to the Consulate General.

Please note that in addition to the documents mentioned above, the future spouse must produce a declaration of absence of impediments to be presented and signed before the Russian consular officers. Depending on the Consulate inquired, it may be necessary to book an appointment for the nulla osta for marriage purposes using the official website or in person.
